Graphic Design vs Web Design- What’s the Different

Graphic Design vs. Web Design – What’s the Different?

I didn’t understand the distinction between Graphic Design and Web Design when I first began studying Web Design. It didn’t take me long to recognize that they are distinct roles and they both serve their distinctive objective.

What’s Graphic Design?

To present a concept, the graphic design includes creating graphics, typography, and pictures. You will find a graphic designer in the print industry most of the time, but they are also found in web projects as well. Graphic Designers create digital graphics that are then turn it into brochures, posters, or whatever branding materials they require. Graphic designers do no programming. They are responsible for creating graphics which can be use later for a publish print job or even for websites.

What’s a Web Design?

Web Design includes creating graphics, typography, and pictures just like Graphic Design, but we are using the World Wide Web. A web designer has limitations on what they can do. Websites need to load quickly and operate effectively. We have to account for stuff like file size, screen resolution, and general velocity and efficiency.
This is why Web Designers often use compressed graphics that sacrifice quality for velocity. Unlike Graphic Designers, Web Designers must also be able to transform their designs into a working website. This includes learning HyperText Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) most of the moment.

The Difference is the Medium

The medium is the primary distinction between graphic designers and web designers. Individuals in the field of graphic design often have more freedom because they are not restrict by programming, resolution or speed. Web Design experts have to balance excellent web design with velocity and effectiveness. There are some experts out there who can do both of these roles as one, but it is uncommon that they are masterful, as they tend to have more strength in one or the other.

Not Always Eye to Eye

As with any sector, disputes can occur between experts in the world of graphic design and the world of web design. For example, a graphic design professional may think that the work of a Web Design professional is at a lower quality than print work.On the flip side, web design professionals are often upset by professionals in graphic design because they don’t understand the internet. It is one of those basic distinctions that will (likely) always occur, as neither party knows each other.
