Why can’t send a .exe file ?

Gmail will automatically block the .exe file as they often contain viruses. Please change the .exe to .txt before sending. You may change the .txt back to .exe when you receive it back.

Another possible reason is that your friend has disabled attachment download in his Outlook/Outlook Express   for security reasons. Please ask your friend to check this security setting.

However, there are two easy workarounds to send executable files through Gmail.

Send Executable Files using Google Drive

  1. Firstly, compose an email in Gmail and click on Insert files using Drive.

  2. Secondly, go to Upload section and click Select files from your computer to select the .exe file on your PC.

  3. Then, click Upload to add the .exe file as a link in email.

  4. Lastly, click on Send to send the file through Gmail.

Change the File Extension

Like mentioned above, you can change the extension of your .exe file to send them.

  1. Firstly, click on .exe file that you wish to send and press F2 key to rename it.

  2. Then, remove the exe and replace it with other extension like txt.

  3. Click on Yes button and the file extension will be changed.

  4. Lastly, you can now select the renamed file as an attachment of the email in Gmail. The attachment will be sent successfully.
